Jeffrey Barnes is the executive director of Learning for Leverage (LfL), which provides state-of-the-art training to professionals throughout the Pacific Northwest. Originally started as a partnership with Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski to better train Oregon’s information technology workforce, LfL has evolved into an independent training program for professionals at organizations of all sizes and in many different areas of the tech industry and beyond. |
| Jeff has an enduring passion for the education enterprise and prides himself on providing opportunities for greater success in work and in life – whether it’s through teaching and forming connections for individuals or developing innovative programs for an entire region. Throughout his career he has filled a diverse range of key educational leadership roles for organizations, including as founder and program manager of an Adult Degree Program in Business Information Systems at Linfield College, where he also taught a course in “Learning Portfolio Development.” Jeff has taught Sociology courses at PSU, conducted an Applied Statistics Workshop for USC and received top honors in an international competition for developing and delivering a facilitated workshop on Web Interaction Software-as-a-Service. He also was invited to deliver the commencement address for a Seattle Area Technical Institute on the topic of “Maximizing your Market Value.” |
| A 20-year member of the Society for Information Management (SIM), Jeff served on the Seattle Area Chapter Board as Vice-President of Education and currently serves on the Portland SIM Chapter Board as Membership Director. He has been a featured speaker at two SIM Annual International Symposia, speaking on the topics of Decision Management and Organizational Change Management. He also conducted a facilitated workshop for SIM on Requirements Discovery for Business Intelligence Initiatives.

| Before joining LfL, Jeff Barnes founded Compelevent Solutions in 2002 – a consulting firm with a focus on business development, decision and change management for the technology sector. He is known as a strong developer of organizational alliances and understands the crucial role of technology thought-leaders and managers in that endeavor. He is also a “recovering CIO” of a Managed IT Service Provider for eight years. |
| A Pacific Northwest transplant since high school – Jeff attended Whitman College, earned a BA in Sociology from the University of Washington and an MS in Social Research (Sociology) from Portland State University, where he also managed the Center for Population Research. |
| Jeff lives in Washougal, WA with his wife, Linda. They have two grown daughters and four very interesting grandchildren, who provide a boundless source of joy and change. |
